Santa Barbara Cabin Concept Design Study:1997
Santa Barbara, California

The owners wanted a rustic weekend cabin that looked like it belonged on the open Santa Barbara coastline at Hollister Ranch, the last remaining area of the California coast still under private ownership.

The design was resticted to an 800 sq. Ft. structure based on property deed restrictions governing the construction of 2nd homes on lots that already contained an existing house.

Jim Carlson captured the feeling that the owners were looking for, with an eclectic design that recalls the the feeling of old california barns, with their distinctive roof pitches and metal roofing materials, combined with the Victorian columns of old Santa Barbara houses and classic details from the great old mountain lodges.
